About Solange
Solange (a.k.a. Martin Scully) started writing music at school at the tender age of 14. He spent most of his time in and out of the music department at any given opportunity to play and experiment with piano and Roland synthesizers. Discovering his newfound talent, he wrote several tracks & was entered a county competition for Young Composer of the Year and finished in 2nd place. Following this early success, his mentors and teachers finally began to take notice and listened to his needs for the equipment he required to expand on his talent & progress his skills in musical production. The music department finally invested in Atari ST, Cubase & some modules, bigger synths and samplers.
Having left school, Martin worked with Scott Walker and SWP Records on several different remixes and helped produce and remix many different trance and house tracks for several different artists. Having mastered the art of mixing and his producing skills growing from strength to strength, he secured his first DJing residency in commercial nightclubs, playing all kinds of music from house, trance, R&B, top 40 to happy hardcore. His skills were improving rapidly, and it was during this period that he noticed that his main interest was in dance and especially trance music. In 1994, he secured his first residency at The Grove in Gravesend, and this was just the start of things to come……In 1996, he started a 12-year residency at The Zone & Ethos (The South East's biggest club at the time). A regular DJ for the South Coast Weekenders and a few of the Devious Weekenders, as well as regular spots at Cales in Ashford and Indigo in Folkestone before securing his 5-year residency at the legendary Ikon in Maidstone.. He also hosted a show on London's Total Dance Radio, which was broadcast worldwide. Wanting to spread his wings and accepting the opportunity to play abroad, he began a 6-month residency at Club Empire in Kavos before moving on to Gran Canaria for the Muzik Trance Tour with Miss Monneypennys. In 1999, he got the opportunity to get some proper studio time and teamed up with Martin Stone and wrote the original trance track "Messages" and released 1,000 White Labels with the original commercial mix and 4 AM mix. On the back of that, Scott Bond requested "Messages" 4 AM mix be included on Gatecrashers debut album "Gatecrasher Red".Following the success of Gatecrasher Red, R&S/Global offered a 10 year contract to Solange and his track "Messages" with remixes by Mr Pink and Gouryella which saw Solange appear on multiple dance and trance compilation albums over the next few years for the likes of: Gatecrasher Red, Club Nights Vol. 2, Progressive Club, Gary D Trance, 21st Century Trance 2, Energy Trance Vol 8, Euphoria Level 3 and even remixed by Paul Van Dyk and on his Politics Of Dancing 2 album in 2005.
After Martin Stone left for personal reasons, Martin Scully continued with Solange and ended up working with Dan Bartholowmew in 2011 which saw "Messages" being re-released and remixed by Jonas Steinburg and D-Mad. This then reached number 1 as the tried and tested track of the week with Judge Jules on BBC Radio 1. On the back of this success, Solange then worked with Binary Finary and had a second single signed to Future Focus called "Subliminal Delusions" which included their remix and remixes by Alpha Duo, Three Drives and Sean Murphy. Not long after this,s everything stopped for Solange. Martin Scully decided it was time for him to take a break and concentrate on himself and his family after Dan tragically passed away unexpectedly. In 2022, he was convinced by one of his best mates to come out of Musical retirement and was introduced to Jason Nawty, Phil 'Mobi' Wale and Liam McNamara at their independent dance record label "Positive State".With their help and remixes from Binary Finary and Metta and Glyde, they have remixed and re-released "Messages" on 30th December 2022. This rekindled Martin Scully's passion for writing and producing. Now, Martin has teamed up with Scott Nichols in Australia and Frode Nilsen Kambo in Norway, who was also a very good friend to the late Dan Bartholowmew, working together as Solange. This has seen the creation of multiple tracks all signed to Trance FC or Black Hole Records for releases through out 2024 and 2025. The guys are currently working on multiple projects for future Solange releases for the future, driven by the memory of Dan
